The Periods of English Literature

This has been classified according to the social and political status of England. And also it is majorly based on the works and elements used by the writers of that era. This is common classification of the periods of English Literature

  1. c.450-c.1066 - The Old English Or Anglo Saxon Period
  2. c.1066-c.1500 - The Middle English Period
  3. c.1100-c.1350  - The Anglo Norman Period
  4. c.1500-1660- The Renaissance period
  5. c.1558-1603 - The Elizabethan Age
  6. c.1603-c.1625 -The Jacobean Age
  7. c.1625-c.1649 - The Caroline Age
  8. c.1649-c. 1660 -The Commonwealth period
  9. c.1660-1800  - The Neoclassical period
  10. c.1660-1700 - The Restoration Period
  11. c.1700-1745 - The Augustan period
  12. c.1745-c.1800 - The Age of Sensibility
  13. c.1798-1830 - The Romantic period
  14. c.1832-c.1901 - The Victorian Age
  15. c.1901-c.1914 - The Edwardian Period
  16. c.1914---c.- The Modern Period
